Rangers ready bid to sign Fenerbahce attacker Bright Osayi-Samuel

Rangers are set to open negotiations with Fenerbahce over a deal to sign Bright Osayi-Samuel in the coming days, according to Takvim.

The Turkish newspaper reports that Gers officials will meet with Fenerbahce next week and are readying a bid worth £2.5million for the 23-year-old winger.

It is understood that Steven Gerrard has specifically requested that the Premiership champions sign Osayi-Samuel but Fenerbahce want £3.4million for the former QPR attacker.

Do we need him?

Rangers’ main goal this summer will be to avoid too many – if any – of their key players from last season.

However, it is also important that the club makes a bit of money to buck to trend of making huge losses each year.

One of the most highly-valued players at Ibrox is winger Ryan Kent but we don’t feel as though Osayi-Samuel is seen as a replacement for the Englishman.

Instead, we feel as though the Nigerian can play in a team with Kent as although he can play on the left, Osayi-Samuel is predominantly a right-sided winger.

After joining Fenerbahce from QPR in January, Osayi-Samuel made almost all of his 19 appearances on the right.

However, the ex-Loftus Road attacker only managed to score one goal and supply one assist in those games and rarely completed 90 minutes.

Gerrard must see value in the player though as Takvim reports that the Gers boss has asked for him to be signed.

Gerrard has done well at raising the value of players he’s brought in but will Osayi-Samuel be the same?

In December, Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman called Osayi-Samuel “exciting” and is adamant “he will go to the next level [Sky Sports, 9/12/20, 7:35 pm].

We’ll have to see but for now, we find it hard to believe stories in the Turkish press and will throw caution to the wind.
