Livingston assistant Marvin Bartley hit with ban for dugout breach

Livingston assistant Marvin Bartley has been hit with a fresh two-game ban by the SFA after he took to the dug out against Rangers and Aberdeen while suspended.

Bartley should have been in the stands for his first two Premiership matches since accepting the role as David Martindale ’s number two.

But the 35-year-old was on the touchline - and even picked up another yellow card in Sunday’s defeat to the Dons.

Bartley was booked 13 times last season leading to a two-match ban carrying over into this campaign.

Livingston thought the suspension only applied to him in a playing capacity thus the veteran midfielder wasn’t listed as a player at Ibrox or against Aberdeen.

However it also applied to his role as assistant meaning Bartley was charged under disciplinary rule 208 which states: “No player or member of team staff shall breach a suspension and no club or football academy shall allow a player or member of team staff to breach a suspension.”

Livi have accepted the reimposition of the two game suspension which applies for the upcoming Premiership clashes against Motherwell and Hibs.

Ironically Bartley WILL be available in both a playing and coaching capacity against St Mirren in today’s Premier Sports Cup second round tie.
