Rangers transfer business baffles Sir Kenny Dalglish

Sir Kenny Dalglish is baffled by Rangers not signing too many players in the summer transfer window.

Steven Gerrard managed to keep hold of all of his key players in the summer while also adding Nnamdi Ofoborh, John Lundstram, Fashion Sakala and Juninho Bacuna to the squad.

None of those four players have started life at Ibrox with a bang with Ofoborh ruled out due to a heart issue and Lundstram struggling to find his feet in Scotland after his move from Sheffield United.

Dalglish is glad to see the Gers keep hold of their stars but questions the number of signings Gerrard and Ross Wilson made.

“I was a wee bit surprised that Rangers didn’t bring in one more player during the transfer window,” Dalglish wrote on the Sunday Post website.

“Listen, it was great that they kept the likes of Alfredo Morelos, Nathan Patterson, Joe Aribo, Borna Barisic and Ryan Kent, players who are known to have their suitors elsewhere.

“But striker, Cedric Itten, and central defender, Nikola Katic, left on loan.

“So maybe Steven Gerrard would have liked another body in to add to his squad?”

Right call?

We may have dropped out of the Champions League, qualified for the Europa League group stages by the skin of our teeth and lost to Dundee United in the Premiership, but Rangers still look the best team in Scotland.

We’ve beaten Celtic already, progressed in the League Cup and still look favourites to win the Premiership title.

Did we really need to strengthen much more? If anything, we needed to sell more.

And that’s not a slight on the club’s finances, it’s down to the fact that our squad feels really bloated in some areas and short in others.

Our attack is well-stocked while the midfield is probably over-flowing with players who can slot in. Yet on the left, we’re short.

If Ryan Kent gets injured for a prolonged period then we may have an issue for Gerrard to overcome.

However, if we didn’t sell players, did we have the financial capability to go out and sign a load of new signings? Probably not.
