Despite being a man down at the break, Rangers managed to secure a 1-0 win against FC Alashkert on Thursday night. A result next week on the road would ensure a place in the Europa League group stages, but the focus must be on Sunday’s Premiership game versus Ross County at Victoria Park.

The Gers are still a shadow of the ‘invincibles’ 2020-21 campaign, having already lost a league outing this season against Dundee United. The resurgence of Celtic has definitely jeopardised their title defence as well. However, a commanding victory against the struggling Staggies to make it 3 wins out of 3 might help them rebuild momentum overcoming these early jitters.

Predicted 4-3-3 Rangers Lineup Against Ross County

Defence

Steven Gerrard has two first-team custodians in his ranks. While he has preferred Allan McGregor for the European fixtures, Jon McLaughlin is expected to return between the sticks being the ‘number 1’ for domestic contests.

Skipper James Tavernier had a few underwhelming outings across competitions. But his assist over the top of the Alashkert defence made the difference in such a close encounter. Connor Goldson is regaining his rhythm in the heart of the defence, whereas Leon Balogun might replace Filip Helander who has been rotated so far along with the other central defensive options. Calvin Bassey was excellent once again down the left, but the gaffer should restore experienced Borna Barisic to keep the squad fit and fresh.

Midfield

Ryan Jack and Nnamdi Ofoborh remain sidelined with their respective injury woes and the pressure, therefore, would be on 36-year-old Steven Davis despite a strenuous midweek game against the Armenian minnows. The iconic Northern Irishman must dictate the show from his deep-lying role.

However, the return of Glen Kamara would bolster the Gers given the nightmare run of John Lundstram in the middle of the park. Joe Aribo has maintained his standard with high work ethics and smart movements thanks to his ball-carrying ability, great footwork and creative spark. It is to be seen though whether new signing Juninho Bacuna makes his debut on Sunday afternoon.

Attack

Ryan Kent is not performing at the levels he is capable of, and the manager was forced to take him off at half-time versus Alashkert. Scott Wright should get the nod from the start and occupy Kent’s left-wing role for the weekend fixture.

Ianis Hagi has been majestic with his pace, flair and directness down the right. Also, the amazing Alfredo Morelos must keep hold of his ‘number 9’ role irrespective of the exit rumours. Kemar Roofe is likely to be introduced as a ‘super sub’ to add more goals to his tally after firing in against Livingston and Dunfermline.
