Glen Kamara: new Rangers deal could put £7m Gers interest on “back burner”

Rangers star Glen Kamara is edging closer to a new deal at Ibrox amid high profile interest from a range of Premier League clubs.

Ex-Arsenal Academy graduate Kamara, 25, is one of the Gers’ most prized assets and his form since moving to Ibrox from Dundee in January 2019 has cemented him as one of the club’s key players.

Steven Gerrard has made no bones about his desire to secure Kamara on a new contract with the player’s current deal set to expire in 2023.

Reports of a new deal come from the Athletic, who claim this is also a sign that Glen won’t be moving on from Rangers during this transfer window.

According to that report, Kamara has been offered “improved terms” but remains “keen” on a return to the Premier League in the future.

To pacify this, Rangers have reached an “understanding” with Kamara that if a “suitable bid” lands they will do business regarding the midfielder.

The report also claims that a new deal for Kamara – which rewards him for his outstanding performances and development over 107 games – could alter the Gers’ transfer plans.

The Ibrox club have been extensively linked to Dutch playmaker Joey Veerman but Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell claims the Kamara deal “may see that put on the back burner”.

This is due to the excessive number of options Rangers have in midfield.

Kamara’s value to the club was highlighted in the match with Malmo in the Champions League, where a controversial suspension meant Glen’s absence was felt by the Ibrox side in 2-1 defeat.

Rangers have been linked with a £7m move for Joey Veerman [Glasgow Times] but Dutch club Heerenveen continue to hold out for north of £8m.

Rangers fans will be delighted to hear about the club potentially tying down one of the Gers’ most prized assets amid reported interest from the likes of Everton, Arsenal and Brighton.

This interest was heightened after Glen was a stand-out performer for Finland at Euro 2020 during the summer’s tournament.

Not that Kamara has ever made any sounds about leaving – the Finnish international midfielder claimed in pre-season his sights are firmly set on success in Glasgow.
