Former Rangers star Joe Worrall sees Premier League move collapse

Joe Worrall, who played for Rangers during the 2018/19 season, has seen his dream move to the Premier League collapse, according to the Daily Mirror.

They claim that the 24-year-old has returned to Nottingham Forest after Brentford decided to sign Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer instead. The Daily Record also claim that this is a “blow” for Worrall, who “appeared primed” to join the Bees before they start their Premier League campaign.

Worrall was first linked with a move to Brentford in June but that move has collapsed, which is a shame for the Forest man [the Sun].

Does Worrall deserve a Premier League chance?

In his time with the Gers, Worrall made 32 appearances and scored one goal.

He was one of Steven Gerrard’s first signings as Rangers manager and played his part as the Gers finished nine points off Celtic.

In his time he was at Ibrox, Worrall was praised for his willingness to “fight” by Lee McCulloch [Glasgow Times].

He often earned praise from some Rangers fans, and has taken his game onto another level since he left Ibrox [the Boot Room].

He even admitted himself that his loan move to Rangers helped him improve, so it is gutting to see him miss out on a move to the Premier League [the Daily Record].

Since returning to the City Ground, he has performed very well for Forest and has been one of the Championship’s best defenders over the past two seasons.

Certainly, you could argue that defensively he is better than Ajer, who has come in for criticism in the past for his defending while at Celtic [Football Insider].

It certainly feels harsh on Worrall that his dream move to the Premier League has been crushed, and the fact that a Celtic player has been picked ahead of the former Gers man must feel even worse.

In other Rangers news, one Gers starlet has admitted he could leave the Ibrox.
