Santiago Moreno Rangers transfer news as agent offers bidding war insight

America de Cali winger Santiago Moreno's move to the Portland Timbers looks to have stalled amid reported interest from Rangers.

The 21-year-old impressed in his breakthrough campaign in the Colombian top flight and is reportedly on the radar of the Ibrox side, Leeds and Southampton.

Steven Gerrard has already added Fashion Sakala to his forward line but will be keen to further bolster his attack for a crack at the Champions League group stage.

Reports Stateside had claimed that the attacker was set for a switch to Major League Soccer this summer, however his agent Romario Castrillon has opened the door for a last gasp bidding war.

He admitted that it was guaranteed that the player would leave the Colombian club having been dropped form the first-team.

When asked about the state of play with Portland Timbers, he told El Pais : “There are other possibilities on the table, but the one we are working on at the moment and the closest to a deal is Portland.

“‘Santi’ leaves very grateful to the fans of America de Cali, he fulfilled his dreams and understands that leaving young will also give him the opportunity to return at a good time."

On his first-team exile, Castrillon added: "Santiago is training with a special plan while he solves his situation, but all reviewed and endorsed by the coaching staff.

"He has not stopped training because at this time he is still a player for América de Cali."
