Rangers star Kamara in line for big move amid contract reveal - McLeish

Alex McLeish has suggested there could be a “big move in the offing” for Glen Kamara if Rangers cannot tie him down to a new contract.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers boss insisted getting the 25-year-old to pen a new deal would be a “priority” for the Light Blues.

Speaking to Finnish broadcaster MTV Uutiset (6th September), Kamara confirmed talks over a new contract were “ongoing” at Ibrox.

However, discussions have been taking place since at least March.

The midfielder was in demand over the summer transfer window.

As revealed by Football Insider, Arsenal made a move to re-sign their former youth prospect but it was rebuffed by the Gers.

McLeish suggested Rangers would be desperate to get Kamara to extend his stay.

However, he claimed a move for the midfielder, or another Rangers star, could be on the cards over the next 24 months.

Asked if tying Kamara down would be a priority for Rangers, McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “There’s no doubt about it.

“They have done well to tie one or two others down so I would think he would be a priority.

“If not, it only leaves the speculation that possibly there’s a big move in the offing for him. One, perhaps, that Rangers can’t say no to.

“There’s got to be situations like that will crop in the next year or two for Rangers, while they continue to assess the market themselves.”

Kamara’s current deal at Ibrox runs until 2023.

He arrived in the January window on 2019 for just £50,000 from Dundee.
