Rangers: Pundit hails 'really encouraging' Lepinjica developmet

It is “really encouraging” that Rangers are shopping in the same market as Premier League teams like Tottenham when it comes to player recruitment.

That is according to ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively after Football Insider revealed on 11th June that Rangers are looking to sign Ivan Lepinjica.

The Scottish Premiership champions are keen on the Croatian midfielder on an initial loan deal with an option to buy.

The 21-year-old is also a target for Spurs and featured 20 times for his current club Rijeka in 2020-21.

This site revealed on 10th June that the Glasgow club sent scouts to watch Lepinjica play in person this season.

And Kenny claims that Rangers’ pursuit of the highly-rated anchorman is emblematic of how far they have come in recent years.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “For them to be champions again and competing with Spurs for signings is really encouraging for the fans.

“After what they’ve been through over the past 10 years or so, it must be good to see that happening.

“I’m sure that Gerrard is a massive influence in all their signings. I can imagine a lot of midfielders being excited at playing under Gerrard.

“They can learn a lot from him because he was an unbelievable midfielder himself.”

Rangers already have two Croatians on the books in centre-back Nikola Katic and left-back Borna Barisic.

The latter is a target for Arsenal, Aston Villa, Wolves and Leeds United, as revealed by Football Insider on 13th June.
