Rangers handed 'massive' boost after Ibrox news - Pundit

Steven Gerrard and the Rangers board have been handed a “massive boost” after Ryan Jack revealed he is hoping to return for pre-season training.

That is the view of former England and Premier League striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as the midfielder confirmed he is currently in the middle of his rehab programme.

Jack told Sky Sports he will have recovered from his calf injury before work begins on the 2021-22 campaign.

The 29-year-old suffered the injury against Dundee United at Ibrox at the end of February.

He had hoped to return in time for this summer’s European Championship but he required surgery that forced him to miss the tournament.

“It’s a massive boost to have him back for pre-season,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

“It’s always a big boost when you get players who have been influential over time that have been out for a while and they come back. It’s almost like a new signing.

“The big thing is how you manage it in pre-pre-season and hopefully players don’t break down.

“Then you’ve got that almost new signing for the start of the season.

“It gives the board a boost as well because it was probably an area they thought they might have had to spend money and now they don’t have to.

“It’s a big boost for Steven Gerrard.”

Jack scored twice and provided one assist in 24 games across all competitions last season.

The 10-time international has now played 130 times for the Ibrox outfit since moving from Aberdeen in the summer of 2017.

In other news, Rangers have been told to offer a bumper player deal amid £10m transfer reveal.
