Ally McCoist has told talkSPORT (3 June, 8am) there’s no reason why Rangers manager Steven Gerrard should leave Ibrox this summer – certainly not for Everton.
Even if you ignore the fact Gerrard is a bonafide Liverpool legend, there are a multitude of reasons why the former Anfield skipper would turn down a shock return to Merseyside.
For one, his Rangers side will be playing Champions League football in 2021/22.
Everton, meanwhile, fell well short of European qualification in the end, finishing tenth in the table during Carlo Ancelotti’s one and only full season at the helm.

Furthermore, while the Gers have succeeded in scaling the summit of Scottish football again, ending Celtic’s decade of dominance, Gerrard’s job isn’t done yet.
Gerrard has so much to do at Rangers
An exciting, improving Rangers side are well placed to build on their 100-point season, with Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo, Ianis Hagi and co going from strength to strength under a coach who dragged the club off the canvas when he replaced Pedro Caixinha in 2018.
And McCoist, a former Rangers manager himself, would be stunned if Gerrard left Glasgow before next season kicks off – especially to fill the vacant managerial role at Liverpool’s Stanley Park neighbours.
“(Gerrard) has got Champions League football to look forward to! He’s looking to get two (titles) in a row,” says McCoist.

“For the second year in a row, we’ve had no supporters in. We’ve sold 44,000 season tickets! The club’s going through the roof. He’s got a board that backs him.
McCoist: ‘More chance of me being Everton manager than Gerrard’
“Come on, let’s be realistic. There’s more chance of me being Everton manager than Steven Gerrard
“The Everton job is a fantastic job – but it’s not for Steven Gerrard at this moment.”
The Athletic reports former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca is also in contention, along with Ajax’s Pep Guardiola disciple Erik ten Hag and familiar faces Roberto Martinez and David Moyes.

In other news, Everton next manager: 58-year-old boss has been discussed by board, but it'll be tough
