Rangers icon Barry Ferguson thinks Steven Gerrard should “cash in” on Finnish international Glen Kamara, fearing the midfielder entering the final 12 months of his contract and eventually walking away for free.

The former Dundee and Arsenal ace has been a revelation since moving to the Light Blues for £50,000 and has been linked with big-money moves to a host of sides in England and abroad.
Kamara signed a four-and-a-half-year deal when he joined the Ibrox side from Dundee so is under contract until the summer of 2023.
With the Gers linked with a move for Germany Under-21 star Salih Ozcan, Ferguson thinks it “could be a sign” that Steven Gerrard is preparing for life after the 25-year-old moves on.

“Kamara will be going into the final 12 months of his contract and has already been offered a new contract,” Ferguson told the Go Radio football show.
“You don’t want players going into the final 12 months.
“That (Salih Ozcan link) could be a sign that Glen Kamara might not be committing to Rangers, hence the fact that this guy has been mentioned with a move.
“I don’t know too much about him. He’s playing a decent club, Koln, but going back to it it looks like Glen Kamara won’t be extending his contract and if not you need to go and cash in, and bring in another midfielder.”
Rangers star is in demand
Since Kamara’s move to Ibrox, the Finn has regularly been linked with moves away – including a return to former club Arsenal.
While it isn’t imperative that Rangers cash in this summer, the longer any talks over a new deal drag on, the more concerning it will be for fans.
If he doesn’t sign a new contract by this time next year, Rangers will have to look at possibly selling Kamara – but the in-demand Finn should remain in Glasgow for a while longer at least.
