Former Rangers winger Barrie McKay insists his return to Scottish football with Hearts is a “whole new start” and isn’t focused on trying to right wrongs from his time at Ibrox.
McKay was frozen out at Rangers under Pedro Caixinha before moving to England, but struggled to really make his mark south of the border.
After joining the Jambos as a free agent earlier this week, McKay is looking to get his hands on silverware at Tynecastle rather than thinking about “what happened in the past.”
“It is a whole new start for me and it is important I just go out there and do my best. I’m not thinking about what happened in the past,” McKay said.
“I will do my best and not think about the past.
“I will focus on what I do now rather than what I did years and years ago.
“Everywhere you go, you want to be winning games and trophies. It is no different here.
That is what we want to do, it’s what every player wants to do, and hopefully we can do that this season.”
The ex-Rangers star could make his Hearts debut this weekend in the Edinburgh derby as the capital sides face off in a top-of-the-table clash.
While it is still early days in the season, both Hearts and Hibs have been in fine form; Hearts boss Robbie Neilson picking up the Premiership Manager of the Month Award.
McKay’s Rangers exit is ancient history now though and it will be interesting to see how he copes in the top-flight at Tynecastle after largely falling off the radar during his stint in English football.
