Ciaron Brown: Rangers linked with pre-contract move for ex-Livingston star

Rangers are reportedly monitoring the contract situation of former Livingston centre-back and Northern Ireland international defender Ciaron Brown.

The centre-half is in the final year of his deal at English Championship side Cardiff City and according to Give Me Sport the Gers “continue to monitor developments as to his future”.

The 23-year-old defender is currently contracted to the Welsh side until next summer and the report muses over previous pre-contract moves at Ibrox including those for Jack Simpson and Scott Wright.

Brown – who has four caps for the Northern Irish international team – is yet to play at the Cardiff City Stadium this season despite turning out for the Ulstermen.

The defender played 90 minutes in the 1-0 win over Estonia and the 0-0 draw with Switzerland during the international break, playing alongside Rangers veteran Steven Davis.

However, Brown will be best known to plenty of Rangers fans from his time at Livingston, where the defender has spent three loan spells in the last two years.

In total, the centre-back has made 34 appearances for the Lions, scoring once and his bit-part spell in West Lothian is perhaps what makes these links the most peculiar.

That said, this is not the first EFL centre-back to be linked to Rangers this week after reports claimed the Gers were interested in signing Fleetwood Town teenager James Hill.

The Cod Army centre-half is another who is out of contract at the end of the season but – perhaps more interestingly – is also reportedly being tailed by some of England’s top clubs.

Whatever the case, read more about how Rangers can take advantage of cross border compensation rules to pip top sides to the signing of players like Hill.
